About this experience
Come face to face with the world’s largest fish on one of Cebu’s most unforgettable experiences. This private day tour takes you from your hotel to Oslob on the southern tip of Cebu, where whale sharks — known locally as butanding — gather close to shore in the early morning. Sightings are almost guaranteed, making it one of the best places in the world to see these gentle giants up close.
Your day starts early with a pre-dawn hotel pick-up, so you arrive while the water is calm and the crowds are thin. After a light breakfast in Oslob and a short briefing, a small boat takes you a few metres offshore, where you can snorkel or swim with the whale sharks for around 30 minutes as they glide past — an awe-inspiring encounter for first-timers and seasoned divers alike. Non-swimmers can watch from the boat.
Next, head to Tumalog Falls, a stunning waterfall where water streams down a moss-covered rock wall into a turquoise pool — the perfect spot for photos and a refreshing dip. Then enjoy a full lunch with drinks before the scenic drive back along the southern coast, arriving at your hotel in the early afternoon with the rest of the day free.
Want more? Add a side trip to the hilltop Simala Shrine, a hike up Osmeña Peak — Cebu’s highest point — or a whale shark scuba dive.
Good to know: Please bring swimwear, a towel, sunscreen and a change of clothes. Sunscreen should be rinsed off before entering the water to protect the whale sharks. Tumalog Falls is closed every second Wednesday of the month. Children are welcome when accompanied by an adult.
